I've got a 90 gallon steel tank in the bed (looks like a tool box). I don't know what I'd do without it, especially when towing long distances. The only thing I would do different is get aluminum. I had to put a filter to catch rust before it goes into the stock fuel tank. It nows goes through 3 filters, tank filter, in-line filter for pump and stock filter. It solved my clogged filter issues, but I'd still go with aluminum.

Means you'll have 3.5 gallons left in the tank when the "low fuel " warning comes on.

How many gallons do you normally have?

Why is 3-5 such a good thing?

I have not confirmed it myself
but several posters have said that the last years of the Ramcharger
in 1992-1993 with the then-new Magnum 5.2V8
had a large rear tank with fitting for the correct MPFI fuel assembly,
and can be retro-fitted into modern Rams
if the spare tire stuff is removed

I do have a 55 gallon tank that fits in the box, when I just have the cap and haul the Toy Hauler, but it has to come out for the truck camper to go in and that is where the desire for a larger fuel tank in stock locations comes from. I weigh 18500lbs truck, camper and trailer full of 3 atv's ( avearge about 12.5 mpg with this setup) and more fuel will get us in and most important back out to good fuel.

thanks for all the info

Ralph

Man I would love a 55 gallon fuel tank, but I cringe every time I see the price of filling up my 34... can't imagine right now a 55... that'd be roughly 200 bones to fill it up, but I would also get 880 miles in town as opposed to 544.. something to consider I suppose.

Yeah it sucks when you top it off. But I am still running on my $2.89 diesel that I bought 5 weeks ago and my tank holds 90 gallons. Diesel is now $3.40 where I live. that is a savings of 51 cents a gallon and at 90 gallons that is a $45 savings. I have had my tank for 4 years now and I bet I have saved well over $1000 this way. Especially when driving out west to NV,AZ and CA. IfI fill up in TX right before the price goes up, I can usually bypass buying fuel in those states. If I do have to buy fuel in those states, I buy just enough to get back to TX.
