Has anyoneever built a 2nd gen diesel shortbed? I assuming buying a wrecked diesel would be the best way to go and just use the axles, motor, trans, transcase, etc. Havent priced one yet. I have a friend that works at a salvage yard (may be able to get a discount). Is there any major problems i would run into, I wouldbasically just be using my body and frame, and swap out the rest. any thoughts?
i have a friend building a 94 12 valve drag truck right now, and his best friend is building an 04 shortbed ford 6.0 drag truck...both are short beds..with are extremely fast!
it has to be made into a short bed... i think its mainly just chopping a little bit of the frame off the rear.. and i would imagine you would have to fab new mounts for a bumper and such...
yeah u take the long bed off and cuz the frame right behind the cab and then just buy a shortbed, the only part that sucks is getting the gas tank back up in there...
the way your looking at it, it would not change the wheel base at all from a long bed wheel base to a short bed wheel base, the whole point is to shorten the frame and bring the rear wheels a little closer
I have a 96 shortbed now, i couldnt just swap the diesel parts into mine, save cutting a frame?
swap axles, tranny, motor, transcase, not sure what all else i would need(shorter driveshaft), not real famailar with diesels.
