Wouldn't that be earlier in the compression stroke?

well. . .if you look at it the injector would fire sooner after TDC. to me that is in the power stroke.

fuel is injected before tdc. This allow the fuel to start to burn and also makes up for injection lag.

2nd gens just got the one injection right before tdc. I was mistaken and thought you were talking about the pilot injection on the 3rd gen. So the smarty advances the timing of the second injection closer to tdc?

dang. . .I forgot about that thing

you are right jake. . .the pilot injection is also advanced as well as the 3rd event for the cat.

Marco was able to remove that pesky 3rd injection event for the 04.5 and up trucks. . .but lost A LOT of power in the process.

I imagine that the oil stayed a lot cleaner without that 3rd injection though. Did they extend the duration of the 2nd injection or just remove the 3rd completely?

the 03-04.4's only had two injections and yes the oil stayed alot cleaner. . .the 3rd injection event is mostly for emissions to heat up the cat to reduce NOx.
