Default No Power

Here is a edited verion of my previous post with some more info I got over the week end. I have a 2001 Ram 2500 4X4 automatic 194500 miles. It runs smooth, no warning lights are on, no unusual smoking etc. It just has no power until it has traveled about ¼ mile on the first start of the day or after sitting for a while. Then it kicks in and runs better, but it still looses power at times while running at a steady pace. I have to press the accelerator a lot to get it to pick up again. This started this week and seems to be getting worse. Has anyone else had this problem? It displays the following codes P0216 and P1693Any help will be appreciated.

I believe the P0216 code is the death code for your VP44. This means your lift pump probably took a dump....then the VP44 (injector pump) was starved to death. You will want to check fuel pressure coming from the lift pump (before the injection pump). It should be around 12-14 psi at idle and 4-5psi at WOT. I am going to take a guess and say that you are going to get a big fat 0 doing this test. It's just over $1000 for the injector pump and $250-650 for a lift pump. Hopefully you can do the work yourself, or you'll have to add 6-8 hrs of shop time on top of that.

Here is a link to the place were a lot of guys are getting their VP44's
http://www.mwfi.com
There are a few options for getting a new lift pump.....try a search and do your own research.

Planefixer

please post anymore questions you may have.

yes, www.mwfi.com is where i ordered my fi pump. found they are less $$ than many other locations. some of the guys on here do agree..thats the ones that have had to order them

for the vp44, I do not know the hours dictated by the mechanics job book ( they all use the same books for hours/ time to charge per job) . I found some diesel shops here would install mine . you have to call around and check each place. also get referals from other diesel owners/ mechanics as to shops that are good. I found another mechanic that did my work at***** for 1/4 of the outside diesel shops.

let us know what you find out.

Did you not read the other 99% of my post? I showed him a direction to start figuring out his problem.

The lift pumps that most people are using are: FASS (the most expensive), Air Dog (a little less), and Walbro (a little less that the Air Dog).

I read your post several times. I had just never paid attention to the ending of it

"There are a few options for getting a new lift pump.....try a search and do your own research."

the last bit just struck me as wrong. If I made a mistake, I do apologise for it.

I dont usually criticize, it just didnt read right to me...
