Default maybe a stupid question??

i don't know much about turbo's, but i figure you guys would..

I've got a buddy who got a toyota supra, which is turbo'd along with some other mods, 600rwhp

took me for a ride, it's pretty damn fast..

but my question is... i have read on here about turbo's chirpin

i was under the impression this isn't a very common thing, and not good for the turbo?

well his turbo chirps ALOT when he lets off the gas. everytime.
and the wastegate releases when he nails it.. is this common? probably a dumb newb question.. but hey i'm a gasser lol

so is this bad?

when a turbo barks it actualy spins backwards for a brief moment. . .the torque placed on the shaft is enough to snap it in half. . .also, even though he may have a waste gate he's also got a blow off valve. . .that BOV is probably what you were hearing instead of the turbo barking. . .it can sound alot like a turbo bark, but it isnt. what is happening is the turbo is still supplying boost to the intake, but the butterfly is closed, pressure increases and to keep the turbo spinning up the BOV is there to release the pressure so whem the butterfly opens there is less turbo lag.

BTW, I can get my wastegate to open quickly as well all the waste gate does is bleed off exhaust gasses to keep the turbo from over spinning and blowing apart.

gotcha, thanks for the reply...

was just curious cause he's not to bright with his decisions... he flipped a ford mustange cobra with a saleen package on it (supercharged) which also had alot more mods on it, the thing was pretty sick, even though it was a ford. he flipped that within a week of buying it..

then he wrecked his BMW M3 he had, which he now has another, along with the supra.

woli turbo barking happens when you got your foot in it building some boost and let off real quick. Every vehical with a turbo will do it unless they got a blow off valve.

I can get my turbo to bark easily with my TST turned up. . .it kinda sounds like a mastif or doberman doing a half hearted bark.

might be able to get the video recorder to pick it up one day for ya.
