Default P0524

I had a problem with the truck yesterday and this morning. Yesterday I was letting the truck cool off after I pulled in the driveway and the check gauges light came on and my oil pressure dropped to 0. The only code was P0524 Low Oil Pressure. Shut the truck off and restarted and pressure came up fine. Did it again on the way to work today. Gauge dropped sitting at a stop light. Revved the motor to about 1500 and gauge came back up. Did it several more times in the lot at work. Drops after it idles for 10-15 seconds, but comes back up if you up the rpm. Does it sound like a sending unit problem? What else could it be? Thanks

I hate to state the obvious but, have you checked your oil level?

here's the thing. . .that sending unit is only a pressure switch. . .once it sees 5psi the computer takes over and uses some wacked out algorithm to judge oil pressure in responce with engine RPM.

if you have the correct level of oil. . .you need to get that switch checked out. . .if the switch checks out fine I hope you havent been useing a fram filter.

Oil level is fine. No fram filters. Is there some way to test the switch, or do I need to take it in?

the only way to test the switch is with the truck running. . .if you get an open circuit the switch is bad, closed circuit you have something funky going on with the computer.

Just walked out to the truck at work. Looked like an oil slick on the wet ground. Checked the oil and it was over full, and smells like diesel. Oil levelwas fine yesterday.Seems to be running OK. Maybe a slight tick. Injector??? Sounds expensive.

yea. . .if your making oil you have a cracked injector or worse. . .dont run the truck any more. .. have it towed to the dealer.
