Default Exhaust + Performance Poll

Well.. i Don't post here much, but i will be joining this side soon w00t.
Buying a 97 2500 CTD by the end of the week.
Have already checked it out and drove it and def. can't wait to get it.
it is A/T.

i have looked around a little bit about performance upgrades for the 12V.. haven't found a HUGE amount. you 98.5+ 24V guys have it made.

I am deciding first on Exhaust setup.
i am not sure whether or not i am going to put stacks on it... or just a huge single out.

i am going to have about $1500 i am going to keep from the sale of my truck, and the purchase of the CTD.

What kinda really good performance upgrades do some of you guys know of for the 12V... i want all the
black smoke possible to fill up them stacks muah haha.

Im a chrysler master tech, so installing anything is not a challenge to me just wanna know some results you guys have had.

Thanks alot guys.
If any of you all need any wiring diagrams, service info, parts, let me know, im here to help out.

I don't know a whole lot about your truck, but I do know that if you aren't making big horsepower numbers then 4" exhaust is all you need. But if you are going with stacks, I definately like the mitre cuts, and the 6" would look sweet! As for the upgrades for the 12v, just wait till some other guys chime in, they will have your money spent in a flash

kevin. . .just to let you know. . that 12 valve is capable of produceing more HP than any other ISB. . .you just need to know what your doing.

Jeff Garmin is running a 12valve that is pushing over 1100hp

anyway, look up and research the smoke screw(star wheel), and fuel plate. just those two with a full 4" exhaust will give you a nice boost in power.

4 inch exgaust was the first thing i did to my truck, did not notice a huge gain in power but did notice better economy, after gutting the afc and installing #6 fuel plate, then the power came and i know the better exhaust system paid off, also the bhaf and wastegate block off helped alot, with limited slip rear and auto, it does crazy donuts, hard on tires too, I have over 300,000 on it and still running strong, BTW, can you hook me up with the wiring diagram for the grid heater on a 94? I cannot get a ground signal from the controller to turn it on when its cold. thanks and welcome to diesel land, prepare to be infected with the need for more hp and tourqe, its addicting!

unfortunately... dealerconnect.chrysler.com does not go back past 96 for pretty much anything besides TSB+recalls.
maybe a 96 is close to the same...
if i can find the 94 service manual at work.. the older they get, the more they disappear... i will try and snap a pic of it.
i will bring up the 96 and post it here in a few mins.

that is pretty sweet you modders can pull 1100HP out of these engines.. its amazing.

I am a level 4 specialist tech, I know these engines intake to oil pan thru and thru, just they don't teach you all the performance secrets you can do to give them a little more ***.

When i was in school, and they talked about the injection pump and the "star wheel". they always said... "
"When it comes to an injection pump performance issue.... REPLACE THE PUMP"
how they are tamper-proof and whatnot... stupid. i always told my self when they talked about the break off screws... i was like... yeah right... sureee they are not removable... i got a damn chisel that'll take that sob out.
there is no "re-calibrate it" to them.

so gay.

You'll never get 1100hp out of a 1st gen truck but, they do make a nice amount of power. Garmons truck is built from the ground up with a lot of custom parts. A larger turbo, performance injection pump and huge injectors will be whats gonna get you up there in hp. There a lot of 1st and 2nd gen guys out there that swear by them and would never think of going CR. That's been changing a lot lately though. When they see a CR make 1300hp with 2000+ TQ !!
