Been running 10k on conventional oil. Just did an analysis and it came back with a good report.

An oil analysis is done to check the viscosity, amount of metals and fuel level and alot of other things to make sure its within certain standards. Like me I'm not going to do it on this pickup because its at 144,000(hit it a week ago) and I will prob keep it till it dies but here in probably 2 years I'll have a new pickup which I'll send every used and new oil in. I was told to send oil in from your bottles to see what you started with and from your used oil to see what you ended with. So at your first oil change send some used oil and a little bit of the oil you just put in and do that every change.

The 5.9L 2007 owners manual has two schedules. Those who really work their trucks should change their oil every 7,500 miles. I fit the casual driver which means that I can change mine every 15,000 miles. This leads me to ask why other people with the same truck are doing their oil changes more often.

The first time you use an oil it may be a good idea to do a OA on the virgin oil if you don’t know its TBN but you don’t need to send in a virgin sample at every oil change as it would double your cost. Also it’s a good idea to get a TBN done when you do your UOA so that you know how well your used oil is. I know Blackstone charges $10.00 Extra for a TBN number but I think it’s important to do so. If you use Oil Analyzers (who Amsoil goes through) they give you a TBN number in their reports at no extra cost. FYI, OA is short for Oil Analysis and UOA is short for Used Oil Analysis.

Because Jiffy Lube has gotten people brain washed in to changing oil at 3,000 miles. That and most don’t understand that oil has advanced many times over the years. One other thing is that most don’t stop and think that their engine holds 3 gallons of oil not the 4-6 qt's that gas engines hold.

Well, the reason I'll prob send in new and used is because I will probably get them free. The company I'm going to work for lets its workers send in theirs with the already numorous we do. I guess they have just a monthly payment because they are sending oil analysis in for over 100,000 engines. they have company trucks, diesel engines, natural gas engines and some others. If the oil is right maybe I'll see if I can get that cheaper or free to. If I can take advantage of it I'm goin to but I'm not a person to take what isnt mine, just whats offered.

I'm doing mine evry 5K with Rotella T and a Fleetguard Strat filter. Needed it or not, I feel more comfortable with this schedule.
