Default gauge alternatives

i know this is probably a stupid question, but you never know til you ask, right? is there any alternative for monitoring your truck other than drilling for probes and sensors? if i'm not mistaken even the monitors such as the edge a2 require the installation of the probes. however, i have seen some sources that claim one or more of the bullydog outlook monitors only require that you plug in to your ODB and still give you temps etc. i was looking at the a2 as an alternative to gauges for when i add my smarty. i know it wont control the smarty, thats not what i'm looking for. i do like the safety features it offers, along with the built in gps and ability to run a back-up camera, i just want to avoid drilling into my components. its a personal thing... thanks

you only have to drill your exhaust for the EGT. No other drilling is required. The boost gauge only requires replacement of a bolt on the intake plenum or using a port on a aftermarket intake manifold. Yeah, some boxes connect to the OBD-II and read everything through the ECM but, you have to leave it connected to do so. It is convenient to have a "all in one" box but, you'll not get a lot of power out of a box like that. Maybe enough to fill your need though :-)

to get egts you are going to have to drill into your exhaust where ever you choose...same with tranny temp....all the other senors i believe are put where they are by edge to read more accurate and all...its really not drilling into anything acaully, its just using the ports you have available and putting them to use....the ony thing i remeber drilling for my edge is my EGTs, Tranny, and then had to use the back of the banjo bolt for fuel pressure..if you are going to ge the A2 with the juice, i have seen this thing and it is bad ***...i wish i had the cash for one insted of the regular attitude...good luck in your decision!

A Pacbrake PRXB will be a little further down the road for me. The wife doesn't understand it. Once we start towing, then I think she'll understand better and be a little more forthcoming with the cash

My experiance is second hand on a friend's 01 CTD with a pacbrake. The difference is really amazing. Most stops you only need to use the service brakes to actually come to a complete stop from about 10 MPH. Otherwise as soon as you let off the throttle, is starts slowing down. On a manual trans truck is works very well. I understand the kits for the auto trannys are more expensive because the TC needs to stay locked for the brake to work.

Here is a pic I stole off their site. The NPT bung is on the back side, but you can see the bump out for the bung in the pic.

It puts the probe after the turbo and some don't like that, but if you're not hot rodding, the post turbo config like this allows you to use the cool down settings in the Juice/Attitude or A2.
