Default I hope it's not the transmission :(

My truck is a 3500 96 diesel, automatic transmission. All of the sudden the truck is doing the opposite of what the accelerator pedal is doing. It idles fine but when I switch to any gear and I accelerate to start moving, the RPMs go up and the truck does nothing or after a while of me keeping it at constant RPMs it starts moving very slowly. When I start releasing the pedal to lower RPMs it start moving but jerking jsut like when somebody is learning to drive stick shift and releases the clutch to fast. If I barely touch the pedal it seems to respond better, but if I need to accelerate it just revs up and slowly comes to a stop. Any idea anybody of what that can be?

Sounds like your clutch / pressure plate is toast at a minimum, hopefully thats all. Oopps, missed the part about it being an Automatic.

It's an Automatic so maybe the Torque Converter. That is exactly what happened to my Mustang Last Month. I ended up just replacing the whole transmission. Sorry but not good news either way.

sounds like your TC has mushroomed. when you get a little speed and let out of the throttle the internal clutch is attempting to lock up.

I would say get a new TC and you should be good to go.

It's the torque converter. My 1500 has been doing the same thing off and on for a while.

I have something simular happening to my 05 - 2500 with the 4 speed auto.

If I accelerate slowly the truck will shift fine from 1st all the way to 4th, but if I step on it a little to much when it is in 1st gear, it will rev. the rpm's but will not accelerate. Again, I let go of the throttle and go slow, it won't happen. It does not happen either when the truck hits the 3rd or 4th gear. I can floor it without a problem by the time I get in to 3rd or 4th.

One thing I did notice is that when the truck is cold, it does not seem to give me problem at all.
After driving for about 15 minutes when the oil heats up i gets worse.

Could this be the TC ? I am not getting any codes either that's the strange thing.
Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance.
