Default 3500 DRW Towing Capability Improvements

Hey Guys.

I am completely unfamiliar with how the towing capacities are figured out. At this time I have a 04.5 Quad Cam 3500 4x4 DRW. I am considering getting a gooseneck stacker trailer. I am not sure what to expect or if this is even a good idea. I'd appreciate any feedback or anything I could do to the truck to allow me to tow something so heavy. Need the ability to haul twoof our toyota race carsand equipment.

Thanks
Don

How heavy is the loaded trailer?
Up to about 3500lbs tongue weight and 16000lb gross trailer weight, you probably don't need anything other than an exhaust brake. Lots of hot shoters regularly tow 20K trailers, though not usually in the mountains.

Basically if you hitch up the trailer, and the back of the truck squats, then you might need airbags. Just don't exceed the maximum load rating of your tires and you'll be O.K.

Ok that was easy enough. As far as the truck goes with power. I'm guessing the trailer to be 18k at its heaviest weight ever. Woud you guys think the gooseneck or tag is the way to go. I was worried that with the extra height of the stacker the extra wind resistance would make it very hard for the truck to pull.

That's way too much for a tag trailer. Nobody makes a hitch rated to pull that.
Gooseneck is the way to go. You can get a B&W 26K GN hitch that will pull that.
People pull tall 5th wheels up to 13 feet high, so I wouldn't worry about that.
