I've got an '04 CTD, but am not sure if it's an early or late (after Cummins upgraded the HP and torque ratings) model. Is there a list of VIN's that will identify my truck as an early or late '04?

 

Give me the last 8 digits of your VIN and I can tell you the exact date your truck was made....

you can also look on the valve cover. . .if the HP rateing is 325, then you have an 04.5, if it is a 305hp model then you have an early 04. also the build date of the truck will also tell you, after Jan 04 then you have the 600 engine, before that would be the tripple nickel.

 

Your truck was built November 11, 2003.

 

That makes your an '04. The 04.5's have a build date on or after 1/1/2004

I believe the early 04's also had a 3.5 inch exhaust, as apposed to the 4" for the 04.5's.

 

That is correct. I have an early 04 and it's 3.5" from the turbo to the muffler, then 4" from the muffler out.
