It might be a little late, and info you already have, but here's a link to my little story of putting mine on.

https://dodgeforum.com/m_604252/mpage_2/key_/tm.htm ...bout halfway down you'll find my entry...

Hopefully it gives you some kinda idea.

Good luck!!

Thanks... that does help. Any chance you've still got that template? I really want the Recon lights, but a template to locate them properly would be a huge help.

And have you had any leakage issues?

Hmm...sorry about that template thing...it's long gone. But any light kit [should] come with one. Give the company/vendor a call to see for sure.

And I don't remember if I put the bit about silicon in my other post, but so far she's holding up. Whenever we get a really hard rain I always get paranoid and check the headliner...but nothing. So I'm a little proud of myself.

Again, good luck.

My RECON lights didn't come with a template b/c they are intended to be a factory replacement, howeverI believe when I got them the site said something about contacting them for information on installin them on trucks without them. I did't ask pry wouldn't hurt to, butI had a pretty decent Idea what I was doin and my bro had put them on 3 of his previous trucks so I had him help

I'll contact Recon and see what info they have available. At this point, the proper location is the only concern I have left...

I measured a truck on a dealers lot, if you could find a 96 that has factories on to measure...that may be tricky though....good luck

Ahem... so if there are any '96 owners out there with factory cab lights who are willing to go out and measure for me...

I need the position of each light across the roof, relative to roof center and/or the top of the door frame... plus the distance back from the windshield.

Sweet! I'm sure the measurements for my 2nd gen will be slightly different, but this will get me really close and I can certainly adjust a bit here or there.

The only thing I think I may do differently is enlarge the wire holes just enough to fit a small rubber grommet in there to avoid having the wires run across bare sheet metal and possibly short out over time due to vibration. On second thought, your blobs of silicone sealant will likely accomplish pretty much the same thing?

Excellent write up, my friend! Thanks a bunch...
