Hey guys. I have an 06 cummins with 37k miles on it. I am getting ready for another oil change and my service plan is up. So i am wondering which oil brand to use from here on out since the dealership wont be doing it. Also I want to know which fuel filter brand is the best as well. Please give your input. thanks

Delo, Delvac, Premium Blue, Rotella, all the diesel oils will suit the bill for normal oil change intervals.
Fleetguard is probably the most popular choice in the Cummins crowd.

For now running Dino oil every 5000 miles (Using Rotella). Once I get some miles on it I'll re-evaluate switching to synthetic.

My next oil change will be dino oil rotella 15/40. after that I will have hit the 50k marka nd am going to switch to synthetic. I am going to start using baldwin filters. previously I was using napa gold (rebranded wix). I do have a k&n oil filter on the shelf that will be used next time.

Im gonna try to put 500k on mine using plain ole Rotella 15/40. I have 118k now so it will take a while. Don't waste your money on the oil gimmicks. Keep the oil and filters clean and it will last longer than you want to keep it.

To adopt an efficient oil change interval, I suggest you get a used oil analysis done the next time you change the oil. You send a sample of your used oil to a lab. Some basic tests are done to determine what kind of shape your oil is in. Several of us here at DF use Blackstone Labs to test our oil. Get your sample collection kit here. After receiving your sample, they e-mail you the results in a day or two. They show you the raw data, plus give an expert opinion about your oil. For instance, you change your oil at 5,000 miles and send Blackstone a sample. They analyze it and determine your viscosity, TBN, and metals content is such that you could have gone much further than 5,000 miles. In the report they may suggest to do the next change at 7,500 and do another analysis. After you determine an appropriate interval you could then get the oil analyzed every second or third oil change. Also, you don't have to wait until you're changing the oil to draw a sample. They sell a kit that allows you to draw a sample through the dipstick tube, and you only need a few ounces.

After one guy on another forum did lot of research and found out that the Baldwin PF 7977 fuel filter was better then the Fleetguard Stratpore filter. The Baldwin has a smaller micron rating of 5 microns where Fleetguad is only 7 micron and it still fits in the stock filter housing.
