US-CERT, the nation's Computer Emergency Response Team, has warned people who use Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser to disable ActiveX.

BTW, CERT has been issuing announcements about ActiveX and scripting for years. I guess no one paid attention?

 

I don't know JACK about computers, so everytime I was prompted to install Active X I declined only because I was scared. Now I'm glad that I did.

By default the later versions of IE will always warn you before running any active x crap.

The bad guys target Internet Explorer

If you actually read the article that CERT actually posted up, it's not a Microsoft or Internet Explorer issue. It's THIRD PARTY software that causes the problem.

By default, the Active X controls that are being asked to be disabled are from websites like Facebook, Myspace, etc....

You have to download/accept those.
