Default oily turbo

I just took my airbox out today to install the DTTnoise filter. So I removed the intake hose from the turbo and noticed it was pretty oily in there. I'm assuming this isn't a good thing, how bad is this? Would this explain lack of power and poor mpg? I've never driven another CTD but mine seems to be lacking the power compared to my buddies Powerstroke. It's been this way ever since I've owned it (1 year) so I haven't noticed any loss. Also I'm only getting around 12 or 13 mpg on average. I tried to wiggle the turbine or whatever it is inside there side to side and it was solid. If I need a rebuild what should I expect to pay and what kind of shop would do this?

A little oily soot is ok.Is it just a filmed over residue soot? or does it look like you poured a quart of oil into the intake?

I do havea drop in K&N that I just oiled the other day but thats red oil and there isn't any oil in the intake tube, just the turbo. As you can see there's a leak on the outside of the turbo as well.

Mine looks the same way, I just installed my S&B a week ago and found the turbo looking like that. I wiped as much off on th outside with a very clean towel and will check again this weekend. Not sure if the soot with hummidity causes this oily residue or not?? What year is your truck?

Mine kinda looks like that, just not as bad. It doesn't look like any blown turbo that I've seen, but I'm no expert.

My truck is a 98 and there's a pretty good chance that intake tube hasn't been off in 130K miles.

I just took my silencer ring off and there was a little bit of oil around the ring. The rest was an oily soot. I just wiped it off. I'd say it is probably normal. I am not having any turbo problems at the moment.
