Hi new to this ! I am looking to buy a new or used 2500 diesel and i am seeing the new Blue TEC ,does anybody have any info these

 

BlueTec is the emissions hardware installed on all 6.7L Cummins engines. It consists of a diesel particulate filter and an exhaust gas recirculation system. The soot from diesel combustion is captured in the dpf and periodically reduced to ash by raising the temperature level in the dpf by a process know as regeneration. Soot and NOX emissions are significantly reduced by BlueTec and meet the upcoming 2010 emissions standard for diesel vehicles.

 

Does this hurt power much, and do you know if they still offer the 5.9?

you might be able to find an '07 with a 5.9 motor (I think)... IIRC they offered the '07s with a 5.9. I personally would go with the 5.9... too much emissions crap on the new ones IMO.

 

The 6.7L is rated higher than the 5.9L in horsepower and torque. Having driven both, I'd say the 6.7L feels stronger, especially with the new 6-speed automatic transmission (only available with the 6.7L).

The 5.9L engine was available up till Jan 2007, so you can still find leftover 2007 models that have the 5.9L (but it is getting harder to find).

There have been some "teething" problems with the BlueTec stuff, so many are waiting to see how the 6.7L will do. My 6.7L truck has been mostly trouble free. Some have had major problems, many have had none. Roll the dice...

 

Get the 5.9 and don't look back,
I driven the 6.7 450 miles and was not impressed, it was turning a 1000 rpm less at 70 but using a lotmore fuel than my 5.9 on the same trip and it seemed a little louder, and I expected it to make my 5.9 seem old.

Now the megacab was nice, but then I don't get to sit back there much, but all kind of storage room for tools, but then you you have an A/C that's not rated for that big cab and it runs and little on the hot side and you have to run in recirc to keep it cool.

 

we got regen systems on T800 kenworth trucks with cat C15 engines. but these trucks got a spark plug, and when they regen they actually spark diesel fuel into the exhaust system and burn every bit of soot in the system. works pretty good, but its the first year of installment and 1st year of anything dont ever work the best.

 

Speaking of 6-speed auto's, anyone expressed any interest in making a swap to this tranny on their 5.9?

 

Hey Buford445, Im kinda new to the Diesel worldtoo, andI just bought an 07 2500 Big Horn with the 6.7 Cummins equipped with the Blue-Tec equipment. All I can say is that I'm in love with this truck! I have read alot of posts in this forum that down the 6.7, and I guess there have been some problems with the truck but there are a few things to keep in mind. These are engines that love to be driven, and have been built to last. Also, there is alot of literature on the 6.7 in the owners manual that is very specific on how to operate this system ie... hints, tips, and tricks to avoid going to the dealership to get your ECM reset every week or two. I personally dont haul heavy loads, and dont plan on it in the near future, but I bought this truck because it was exactly what I wanted. I hope this helps.
