Default Which Dodge?

If I am using the wrong forum, then I am sorry. I have a 5th wheel camper which I am currently pulling with a 2007 1500 with a Hemi. It is the Big Horn with towing package. It has the 20" wheels etc. My camper states that hitch weight is 1920, dry weight is 10,800 and the GVWR is 14,000. I have had no problems pulling the camper and the rpms stay around 2000 but I know that I am over weight. This is forcing me to look at a larger truck. I really like my truck so naturally I am look at Dodges. Should I get the 2500, a 3500 with dual rear wheels or one with single wheels? My wife drives this truck daily as I use another vehicle. I would appreciate any advise so that I can decide what I need vs maybe what I would like.

I'll vote for the 2500, unless you think you might go really big on the 5th wheel later on, 3500 is the same truck with a helper spring

As herb said, the 2500 and 3500 (single rear wheel) are identical except for the helper spring. Since your wife (or you) may not be comfortable with the dually's extra width for daily driving, I'd go for the 3500 single rear wheel since your already towing pretty heavy and you may at some point want to get a bigger camper.

The cost difference is minimal ($300?) and I don't think they drive any differently. Test drive both. See what you think.

Not to mention the fact that, if you go for a diesel, you'll get a lot better fuel mileage when towing your fiver.

Thanks for the replies. I believe as you do that I would better off going with the 3500. My only other concern is the dually or srw? Guess I will just have to test drive both and get my wife to do also. Don't want to regret my choice. Thanks again. I appreciate hearing your thoughts and opinions.

go with the SRW. The DRW is incredibly wide for a daily driver. I pull my hair out when my wife drives my 2500, I can't imagine what I would do if she drove a Dually. they are impossible to park them within the lines.
