Default Pyrometer Install?

I had a question for some of you CTD guru's. I followed some instructions that I found in the Cummings Forum on how to install an EGT Gauge. It told me to use a 7/16" bit and a 1/4"NPT tap. Well come to find out the fitting that came with my Auto Meter EGT gauge is 1/8".So my question is thiswhere canI get an 1/8" x 1/4"fitting.Im not sure if brass would hold up under those type of temps. Any help here would be appreciated. Thanks

best bet would be a hydralic shop in your area. Course you can always try the local hardware store too. Ace hardware usually has a good selection of fittings.

Yeah Ace Harware should have a steel 1/4" to 1/8" reducer.

That should be common size reducer fitting, but DO NOT use brass!

Not really, just the knowledge that brass has to low of a melting point to be used in exhaust systems.

Actually I found out from a guy that took a metals class that yellow brass has a melting point of constant 1706 degrees, & red brass has a constant of 1832 degrees.

I got er done today. Ifound a S/S adapter at Ace Hardware. Thanks for all your help everyone. I guess Auto Meter uses a 1/8" fitting where some other brands use a 1/4". I need to check the fitting next time to make sure. I just assumed that they all used the same size. I installed it between #3 & #4. It reads about 200-300 degrees at idle and 600-700 degrees at cruising speed. My boost peaks at 35lbs. So everything appears to be good. Thanks again guys.
