well I guess the topic is perrty straight forward. Other than things like scratches, rust, been wrecked and obvious things that indicate abuse. and the 53 block what should I be looking for in a used truck. I'm decided on a 2nd gen preferably closer to 2001 or 02 since they seem to be in the best shape. but if a clean 98 comes up that's fine. want a extended cab short bed or long bed and 4x4. What problems are there what should I look for when going used. because more than likely i'm gonna have to go long distance with this and basically drive to go get it. I wanted to go new but honestly jsut isn't feasable and a 2nd gen is fine with me.

 

Ball joints are a common problem. Keep in mind 98.5 went to the 24 valve engine, so you have to decide which you want.

 

yes ball joints that's no biggy. replace them with good aftermarket greaseables. honestly I don't care which engine. probably prefer a 24V just because. dunno exaclty why. but if a 98 12v rolled up that was in great condition not super high miles. 200k and below I woudln't have a problem with buying thatl.

 

Look for a replacement lift pump and if one isn't there, plan on replacing it.

 

definately definately don't want to blow out the vp44
