power steering problems

Default power steering problems

i have a problem with my power steering i go threw about a qaurt every two days my steering box is dry and i have no clue were its comin from i have hydraulic brakes so they run together i really need help

Check and make sure your main seal isn't leaking. It will be leaking around the pitman arm shaft. I have gone through 4 gear boxes and all of them leaked from that point.

ive noticed the leaking out of the spline on the gear box i got one priced and for a reman gear box $639.20

which seal is leaking the lower sector seal or the steering shaft seal on the gearbox? why would you replace this box for just a leak or am i misbelived where it was leaking

thats a rip off. go to PSC and pay slightley less for a hefty box

I tried replaceing the seal and it did not last very long. Once it is worn out, it is worn out. Save yourself the time and just get a rebuilt pump instead of trying to fix that one. I have found the ones at O'reilly are good and have a life time warranty. Once I put on the steering stabilize from PSC, my gear box problems went away. I think if you put the stabilizer on and use one of their gear boxes, they give you a lifetime warranty.

i know this is an old thread and i have the same problem, my lower seal at the pittman just blew out suddenly, not just leaking, totally blew out.... and im wondering if i should replace the seals or go for a new steering box... i have 230K miles on the truck.
