which chip to buy
Hi all:
I have a 2004 ram 2500 and I would like to add a chip to get better fuel mileage. So I would like to know which one is better. I don't want to go to all the upgrades like new fuel pump and new injecters. I pull a bass boat. Just need something to get better fuel mileage at $4.16 a gallon that hit hard on on the wallet.
So any input would help.
thanks!
Dave

heres the thing. . it will take a very long time to recoup the cash you spent on a programmer/chip in saved fuel cost. however you will see a slight gain in mileage, 1-3mpg.
now with that said you may actualy see a reduction in mileage since anything you do to these trucks make them soooooooooo much more fun to hammer down. but if you keep your foot out of the throttle then you'll be fine.
when it comes to programmers I would suggest either the Smarty Sr, or the Smarty Jr. the Sr has all the bells and whistles, while the Jr is mainly geared to what you are after. However the Sr, with the proper flash, will do the same thing as the Jr, but you have much more potential with it. They are not adjust on the fly. I have one of the Sr's and I love the thing. the low end power is amazing, but the top end does leave alot to be desired.
now when it comes to chips, if you are a noobie to the diesel world and keep your foot into the throttle I would suggest any Edge box. safe and reliable and will defuel if things get too hot. also there is a quadzilla box that will do the same. I personaly have a TST box, probably the most powerful of all when it comes to the addition of power. I can tell you this about my TST box. if you are not carefull you will melt a turbo, valve, or piston. The bottom end of this box leaves alot to be desired, however above 1800rpm you better hold on.
Yes I have two power adders, one that handles the bottom end, and the other that handles the top end and life is wonderfull
hope this helps

Edge juice with attitude is the only way to go. You can change 5 levels on the fly. It took me 30 minutes to install, and I just felt like I bought a brand new truck. It was amazing upgrade. I got mine brand new on ebay for $799 shipped overnight. Its $899 on edges website. Don't put it in level 4 or 5 it will rip out your clutch. I didn't believe it until I tried it. The attitude is awesome, and monitors EGT, Boost, engine temp, and several other features.
