Default Exhaust Cut-Out

Check this out.

I just saw it in the May 08 Diesel Power Magazine. This is what I have been thinking about. In order to keep my truck "emissions compliant" I drew this up....Yeah I know it is crappy looking but its paint, best I can do.

logically it looks like it would work, but don't know how you could get all the piping to fit and look good underneath the truck. I'm hoping someone can figure out the removal of the dpf without complications.

I checked for clearances underneath my truck, and I think if get the extra 4 inch tubing bent right to hug close to the DPF it might work. There are alot of kits out there to delete the DPF, but they are expensive, and I need to pass emissions to get new tags. Here is one if you are interested: http://www.badptrucks.com/dodgedelete.htm

I could see a CEL in your future. I believe if the ECM doesnt see some type of pressure before and after the DPF it would throw a code.

I was thinking that as well.
I think there would still be some pressure in the original pipe. The butterfly should have some sort of restriction. I wonder if it would be safer to go with a smaller diameter bypass to keep more pressure inside the original.

I've never tried anything like this on ours trucks but I have an exhaust cut-out on my turbo charged car. It dumps right before the cat (about 12 inches of exhaust) and on the dyno it gave me 14hp/10lbs tq. Pretty decent numbers for a very inexpensivemod.

you will more than likely get a CEL, as there should be pyros in your exhaust to help monitor it. should be one before the cat, one in between the cat and dpf, and one after the dpf. the pcm needs to see a differential in temps between these, otherwise it knows something aint doin its job. I will say that I could be wrong, as I'm basing this on how the 6.4 powerstrokes are setup. But I would assume the systems would be pretty much the same.

Yeah it really sucks. It was the biggest pain when I was in High School trying to get my 84 GMC 2500 to pass emissions. I guess it would be easiest to get my truck registered at my brothers house way out in the desert so I won't have to go through emissions.
