Argument
ok me and my dad have been arguing over what i am doing to my truck. he says that by putting an exhaust, chip, and air intake on my truck that i am hurting it rather that helping it. i tried to explain to him that an air intake helps the truck breath better be getting more and cleaner air to the turbo faster than stock therefore helping it run more efficent. he also says that there is no need for exhuasts. again i tried to explain to him that the more air an engine takes in the more and faster it needs to put out. so the exhaust is once again ishelping the engine breath better by getting rid of exhausts gases faster helping it run better. last he says there is no need for a chip. a chip isnt a must have but it does help get better fuel economy by cutting back fuel usage when set on a economy tune. after all that being said my question is this: who is right? and if i am could you please help me explain it a lil better to him? lol but if im not please explain?
You may wan't to do some searching and looking before you do anything. There are lots of posts on this subject on this forum and others. I believe that if you open up the exhaust to much you can actually reduce your mpg this may also be true in regard to the intake. Maybe look for an airfilter that fits in your stock air box that will flow more air and just replace your muffler with one that has less of a restriction than the one you have. As far as chips and programmers go there are all sorts, I would read the forums looking for someone that has the same truck as you and has some hand calculated mpg figures to back any claims of increased milage.
With that said if you want to mod your truck just go ahead and do it. Do you need your Dads permission?

I'll agree with Splicer, and yer Pop (sorry dude) stock intake was about the only thing DC got right! In tests it floweed as well as any aftermarket intake (some of us bought for pure "bling" purposes
) As for the exhaust bigger in this case isn't better, unless you have the HP to back it up, head, turbo, fuel pump, programmer/chip stacks, tranny and so on and so on. Like Splicer says go with after market filter to fit stock box and ( I hope I didn't completely burst your bubble...
) get a good programmer like the Smarty jr. or the Edge EZ, cheap, safe fun! You can yank the OEM muffler and toss on a Aero for some sound effects. If I had the chance to do it again I would have gone this route myself. [:@]
