Does Dodge raise the weight of what we can tow when going to a 5th wheel hitch like Chevy does? 07 quad cab short bed 4x4 5.9 auto

5th wheel or ball. . .with our trucks they will have the same load capacity since the mounting bracket is the same.

Its not the truck that causes the different tow ratings. Its the type of hitch for your trailer. Fifth wheel/goose neck hitches are rated up to and beyond the weight ratings of our trucks. Mine is a pullrite fifth wheel hitch rated at 5000lb pin weight and 20,500lb trailer rating. This is because the hitch is mounted to the frame, centered above the rear axle. Thus there is practically no sway at all. The traditional rear reciever hitch on our trucks I believe is a class 4 hitch. This is rated for a max. of 1000lb hitch weight and 10,000lb trailer weight. You can go with a class 5 that I believe is rated at 1250lb hitch weight and 12,500lb trailer weight. With a bumper style reciever hitch you are limited to the rating of the hitch. A good site for tow ratings is www.trailerlife.com. Click on the tech link and find tow ratings. It will give you all the info for your truck depending on axle ratings, motor, etc. Hope this helps.
