Saw Banks s10 run in Vegas
Drove down to Vegas for the NHRA races. 8000 hp fuel cars are a thing to see. Anyway, Banks put on a little exabition run to show the fans what a diesel power vehicle could do. It was pretty cool to watch. He ran high 7.90's @ almost 180 mph. His last run i believe was like 179.8 mph. That truck could run a few mph faster I bet if the could control the tire spin off the line. I couldn't believe how far he was spinning the tires, and still running that kind of mph. Another thing I thought was, well, different about his truck was the sound. It did not sound like a diesel at all. Aside from being able to hear the turbos spool up, it sounded likea V8 gas engine with open headers. He only ran two times. The first run there was not one puff of smoke. Even when he was spooling up the turbo, nothing. The whole way down the track, no smoke at all. I believe he ran 178.??? The second run, when he spooled up the turbos, there was a little bit of light smoke, just for maybe a second or two, it went away before the launch, no smoke down the track, then when he let off, there was a pretty big plume of smoke. But that's because I think they hurt something. But he still ran the 179.8 mph.
The guy sitting behind me was hell bent on not believing that there was a diesel enging under the hood. He kept saying,"there's no way in hell that thing is a diesel, any diesel that makes power belches out hugh plumms of black smoke." I told him that exactly Gale Banks claim to fame is. Diesel power with no smoke. One thing is for sure, everybody in the crowd thought it was pretty cool to see a diesel powered vehicle do that.

I know a lot of guy's here are hard on Banks, but MAN his stuff is BADD AZZ !! When I read that story on that truck last month in Diesel Power I was amazed at how cool that truck is. I'd love to see that thing run. Did you by any chance get pics?
I've never had a problem w/ Banks stuff....every application of it I've seen appears to be of the highest quality and I hardly ever hear anyone complain about the stuff they got...
except
for the price....I UNDERSTAND the company does a HUGE amount of R&D and that has to be paid for in the price of the production units. But come on there is just such a price difference between them and other good products.
I'm not here building a race truck. I ain't shoot'n for a 8 second quarter mile - so there just doesn't seem to be a really great reason for ME to spend the extra money on his product.
(plus by-george I like the look of a little coal
)

That's because Gale banks is hardcore on matching fuel with proper airflow. His products are amazing and make some of the best power but he gets ragged on because his stuff doesn't belch smoke. and honestly I agree with banks. black smoke is just raw fuel not being consumed so ur just wasting it. Why not make it so ur air intake can keep up with the fuel and then run even faster.
The Banks S-10 was supposed to show that a diesel can run fast without being an "eyesore" to the gas guys (eyesore=smoke). I haven't had a problem with my Banks intake/intercooler yet,but I heard the software is their weak spot.
lilfroger: From past expirences with my cars and truck, a little extra cost is worth the long-term protection.
