Default Lost power brakes and power steering on a 99 Cummins

I've got a 99 Ram 3500 with a Cummins and tonight while backing up to a trailer in 4WD I lost
both the power steering and power brakes.

Anyone got a quick fix to this one?

Thanks,
SS

new power steering pump on those the brake booster is run by the power steering pump using the power steering fluid so if they both went out i would assume it needs a new pump or you got a leak or low on fluid

+1 on the pump.
PITA to change on the Cummins. Expensive too.

Need more help!

Went to put the new pump on and the "addapter" between the pump and the
housing is shot. The gear/spline that the pump drive hooks up to rattles around
and is loose.

1) What do you call the part that I need?

2) Is it as easy to take off as it looks, that is, just remove the 3 bolts holding
it to themotor housing?

Thanks again for the help,
SS

Well, it seems that either the vacuum pump or the coupler, I hope, between the vacuum pump and the PS/PB pump is bad. Need to pull the vacuum pump off and take a look. A new one is like buying a new motor so hopefyully it can be repaired, $1,300 for a new one!!!

Anyone have this one before?

Check out this page http://www.fixinrams.com/id14.html This guy has helped many ram owners. It's also the cheapest way to get your vacuume pump fixed. There is a lot of good info on this site if you look around. It goes into how the pump works and why it fails.

If you are gonna spend $1300, I want to be your mechanic. You can get a new vac pump AND ps pump for much, MUCH less than $1300.00.

And it's only about a 30 mins install for both.

You need to look around before you buy. I would also try to diagnose what went bad to cause the thru shaft to round out.

Could be a defective PS pump. I've seen them leak, never seen one go bad though. The hydroboost units are usually pretty rugged as well. If the hydroboost is bad, I would get a Hydratech or Vanco boost unit. Higher quality than OEM junk.

Good luck with your ride.

Default similar issue with 93 w350

93 W350 with similar issue. Known p/s issues, leaks, wicked hopping after you hit a bump in the road if p/s fluid is low, also soft brake pedal. No apparent brake fluid leaks, complete rear brake job and new front pads. Could this be the same thing as with the 99?

EDIT:
Problem solved. Found apparent load sensor/booster? that was full of air. This is located aft the axle on the left side of the inside frame. Looks like a mini hydro unit for abs.
