Default drilling our frames

i've heard that you are not supposed to drill into our hydroformed frames. however, in the process for looking for some side steps, i've noticed that there are at least 3 big name brands that state that some drilling may be neccessary, including nfabs. is there a best way to drill into our frames? is there an easy way to prevent complications? dave (parts/service) does drilling into the frame void our warranty? what complicatons would i be looking forward to by drilling the frame? and on, and on, and on... you get the picture. thanks!

what you are talking about won't effect the integrity of the frame. Those frames are probably the stoutest in the industry and 10 holes for floor boards aren't going to matter.

alright. i was just voicing concerns that i'd been hearing about over the last year. i thought it would behoove me to at least ask. i don't know the reasoning behind the "don't drill the hydroformed frames" except for maybe collapsing the 'box' of the frame...

Nfabs don't require drilling of the frame at all. They do however require you to drill into the pinch weld area that is the seam under your doors where the seam from your rocker panels meets the sheet metal from the cab.

I found this picture on the net, the chrome flames are attached to the pinch weld.

Hope this helps.

Drilling isn't the problem. What you don't want to do is weld on the hydroformed frame.
