Default running slugish

i went on a 80 mile trip the other day to the mnountains an it was running real slugish. i would get on a incline and it would barely go 20 mph. an also it was shuting off a few times. i think it might be my fuel filter ot cat but not sure any help would be amazing, i have to take it on a 1000 mile trip next month.

Gonna need some details about your truck to help you out.

Year, model, maintenace, has it been doing it on just this tank of fuel, last time you change the fuel filter, air filter, etc., is it blowing a lot of smoke???

The more you provide, the more we can.

Also check the air filter, when working at a lube shop I remember pulling alot of the air filters out of the turbo inlet tube when they started getting dirty the turbos would start to suck them right into the tube.

Diesels eat fuel filters fairly quickly.

Absolutely change out the fuel filter. Dollars to doughnuts, that's your problem. NAPA usually has them, but you may as well order a stash of them for Geno's Garage.

Also, go to WalMart and pick up a 96 ox bottle of Power Service Diesel Kleen. Get you truck down to 1/4 tank, put 16 ozs of PSD in the tank and run the dog snot out of the truck. Prefereably with a load or trailer on it. Run some hills, get the boost and EGT's up and clean some of the crud out of the chamber and off the injectors.

Every once in a while, you need to run the snot of it just to clean the crud out.

good call on parkin it, if it is a fuel filter which it most likely is, you may get stranded somewhere miles away from a new filter. I get my filters from genos garage like the guys mentioned. theres also a nice DIY "do it yourself" page on it in the DIY section of the forum if you've never done it.
