Default well I did it, 6.7 silencer ring delete!!

I decided to take a closer look at the silencer ring, so I tore it down... and while probing round. I noticed that part of the webbing that holds the center ring to the outer ring was broken!! clean break but definately broken. And when I flexed the inner ring, it made contact with the impeller!!!! So My decision was made. It had to come out! WARNING this is a PITA !!! It took me two hours of cutting and pulling, with alot of care not to damage the turbo or housing... But I made it, its out and no damage!!! and It sounds great kinda like a supercharger whine with the windows up and great whistle outside!!! to be honest I probably wouldn't have attempted it but I was worried about leaving a broken piece inside!! GOOD LUCK to anyone who wishes to try it but I am happy with the results...[sm=gears.gif]

The 6.7 silencer ring is held in with pins, rather than the compression ring on the 5.9's!!!! I read up about removing the 6.7 and decided it wasn't worth the possibility of damaging the turbo!!!!!

Congrats dragonslayer, glad u like it!!!!

You should have taken it in to be replaced under warranty that you no longer have once you removed it. Its been a while since I read a post from one person who Emailed Cummins about it and they said it was added for a reason and to not remove it. IIRC they also said it could lower your fuel mileage and affect engine performance. Don’t know if its true or not just passing on what I read.

Glad to hear that you caught the problem before it got worse slayer and that you're happy with the results. I'm also glad to hear that you noticed an increase in noise. Most of what I've heard so far is that removing the ring didn't change the noise level at all.

well, with 37 inch tires a heavy foot and $4.79 a gallon diesel I already can barely afford to drive it on the weekends, I Ride my V-Star to work so what the hell its loud and it's not broken. As far as the warranty is concerned im not a big fan! so rock on !!!

Oh and by the way I am too ashamed to post pics!!! What a hack job, wait maybe Ican desribe what it looks like... take a brand new silencer ring, and then chuck it in a wood chipper!!!! probably prettey close.[sm=happy046.gif]
