Default change oil

so after 1700 miles my change oil indicator came on my overhead console. Dealer said just needs to be reset. they did but we will see how long till it comes on again.

I changed the oil the 1st time at 3,000 miles and came on at 4,700 miles. Anyone else having issues? I thought the new engine had a sensor to tell you when you need a change depending on driving habits etc up to 7,500 miles.

The sensor doesn't actually "check the oil".

All it does is factor in things like RPM, load, idle time, etc and says, "Okay, I THINK you should change the oil"

If you had it changed and it wasn't reset, then it has no idea that you changed the oil. All it knows is that it's contributing factors are still adding up.

So you might change the oil, forget to reset the computer and 10 miles down the road it tells you to change it.

I go 10k with my gasser. Amsoil all the way.
Some genius in 3rd gen changes every 2k, says its easier to remeber to change every even thousand miles. Think he needs to stop drinking the oil.

Does the 2008 have a different overhead console than my 2006? If so, does anyone have a picture of it?

One thing to remember is that the newer CJ-4 oil is not as good as the older CI-4. Also the oil companies are not adding as much additves to the CJ-4 oil for it to hold up like we think it should. Non of the CJ-4 oil has the additive pack like good old CI-4+ oil has so you can expect it to not last as long. Of course we can all thank the EPA for making the newer engien have EGR and DPF's that can't handel the additievs that are in CI-4+ oil so we wind up with ho hum oil called CJ-4.

You spelled "Cummins" wrong. There is no "G" in the name. Just think'ded I would point that out. Unless you intentionally mispelled it. Did you?
