Default Oil change reset of overhead console?

I just completed my first oil change on my new 08 Ram 2500...and now Iget the "oil change required, contact dealer..." on the overhead console. Is there any wayof resetting the timing of the notification for my next oil change or do I have to see a dealer to reset?

Thanks JC

It will be in the owners manual ... on my 08 1500 (no overhead) it is key to 'on' posistion - press accel 3 times with in 10 seconds - turn key off

[ul][*]Change Oil Indicator Reset Procedure - Once an engine oil change has been completed, the PCM duty cycle counters can be reset using the following procedure. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, but DO NOT start the engine. Slowly depress and release the accelerator pedal fully three times within ten seconds. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. If the change oil indicator illuminates the next time the engine is started, repeat this procedure. [/ul]

Don't forget to rub your tummy and pat your head while you're doing it too.

Does anyone that owns a diesel truck actually need something to tell them to change the oil?

What friggin Quickie Lube teamed up with them on this one???

Don't take this personal Dave....but....this always seemed like the manufactures way of trying to convince people who don't read their manual that they must take it to the dealer for service. Not that any company would ever do that.

Jo, no offense taken. If I bought a new vehicle, I would never take it to the dealer for routine maintance nor would I take it to a quick lube. I am like most of you, I am a car guy. I do my own work. I did take my Mustang to a quick lube one time. When I got home, I checked the oil and found it way over full. I went back and asked the "tech" if he removed BOTH oil drain plugs and drained both sides of the double hump oil pan. He said "cars only have one drain plug Dude, I change oil every day and your Mustang only has one drain plug" I said well lets just see. I rolled over the drain pit and went under the car and he pointed to the plug in the back of the pan and said "see there is the one plug" I then pointed to the one in the front of the pan and said well heres number 2. He said "this ain't no factory oil pan". I pointed out the FORD emblem on the pan and all 5.0 Mustangs have two plugs. By not draining both plugs, almost a full quart is left in the pan.. I left there wondering how many cars had left his shop with too much oil..The other funny part was that he said that I needed a new air filter. I asked if he had actually checked the filter and he said that if I wanted, he would open the air box and show me the dirty filter. I had to laugh, the 'Stang has no air box, just a K&N

Must have missed it in the owner's manual - but many thanks to all...worked perfectly.

Thanks again for this one. JC

P.S. I posted a U-Connect problem on the AV Tech section. My U-Connect stopped working? Any help there would be great. Thanks again...JC
