Default oil vs mileage

Hi guys: Thought I would ask the experts. I have had one oil change done on my 2008, 3500 mega cab dually at the dealer. On my next oil change should I switch over to a synthetic such as royal purple and what oil filter would you recommend. Also will the synthetic help the mileage I am getting with the 6.7.
Thanks guy for your input, Burt

amsoil ranks higher than RP in the two key tests (ball bearing wear and flash point)
amsoil makes filters for their long interval oil, up to 35k. Wix is another good name in filters.
In my gasser I was going 7500, this time I'm gonna hit 10k before I think to change it.

It took my gasser about 6k miles ( right around first oil change) to see a mileage boost, but that was more to do with the break in period.

And hell doing it yourself with amsoil will prolly cost the same as what the dealer charges to fill it back up with dead lizzards.

I agree with RamItOne, if you're going to use synthetic you might as well use Amsoil. Any mileage increase will probably be negligible from a switch to synthetic oil, but there are other considerations. Personally I think Royal Purple produces a mediocre product but advertises the hell out of it so you think it must be great!

Here is where I get my Amsoil from. http://www.thesuperiorsynthetic.com/

bpmills,

How many miles are on your truck? Have you worked the engine hard either hauling weight or pulling a trailer so that the rings are seated? If your just using it as a daily driver and not work the engine very hard then I would wait until you have 15-20,000 before you change over to a full synthetic oil like Amsoil.

I'm using standard ol' petroluem based engine oil (15W-40 Exxon XD-3) and still can pull excellent MPGs (21.7 to 23.3 MPG)...

Az, I get mine directly from Amsoil. To buy directly you have to be either a dealer or a preferred customer. You can become a preferred customer initially for $10/6 months, then it's $20/year after that. Preferred customers get 15-20% off of the retail price.

Also, you may have a local 4x4 or speed shop that sells Amsoil. There is a place near me called Trick Trucks that stocks the more popular Amsoil products for truck owners, like diesel engine oil and Severe Gear gear oil.
