Default Friend with a Question

My friend emailed me a question and asked if I could post it in here to see what you guys and gals think:

I joined Cummins diesel forum and in one conversation they were talking about gaining gas mileage. One of the guys stated that he disconnected the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve. He stated that his gas mileage went up as soon as he took it off. I then seen in another section someone else was talking about taking it off along with the PVC valve. Everything that I have seen on the internet concerning the EGR it is only there for smog. I guess when it is connected your exhaust runs hotter, so it seems to me it would be better if it was disconnected. Could you get on your forum and see if anyone has taken the valve off and what they had to say about it. Also I don’t even know where it is located. Some people have said that they gained anywhere from 2 to 4 extra miles to the gallon. I would be gain to try it Let me know what you find out.[/align]
