Changed My Driving Style...
to try and save some diesel. \\; I filled up last week and I'm trying to keep the rpm's below 2k at all times. \\; So far I have been able to but I haven't driven very far, maybe 75 miles. \\; These diesel prices suck because I hardly ever drive my truck now. \\; I have to cruise around in my 91 regal (yes its a grandma car) to try and save some money. \\; I'll let you know if my mileage increases with my new driving style. \\; BTW I don't drive it very hard anyways, but I guess every little bit helps.
I've been doing that with mine since I bought it and it seems to help but, be prepared for them gas drivers getting upset behind you because it takes forever to get to cruising speed
Suggestion for you... if you have a boost gauge, keep the boost at 10 psi or less, turn up your box/programmer and experiment some. check out my mpg thread in the sig and look towards the bottom of the data. I found that if I turned up the TST & kept my foot out of it, mileage was better than with the lower settings. On 1 tank I managed 18.8 mpg, 2nd best ever for my truck, the 1st being a 19.0 mpg coming back from mt whitney. shortly after that I picked up the 1.8t jetta and according to caluclations... in the 10 weeks of owning it I've saved over $1200 bux. wont be long before it pays for itself...
oh yeah, another thing... when you hit the hills, keep the throttle where it's at and let the torque do all the work. you'll slow down a bit but it helps out alot. remember my commute is from 25' elevation up to ~2500' elevation, 85 miles 1 way.
Thanks for the advice. I've been keeping the pyro below 700F as much as possible, but the heat around here has gotten pretty bad so I've been using the A/C and at a stop light with the A/C running the egts are about 500F. That makes it pretty tough to stay below 700F or so. Hopefully I'll be able to break the 15 mpg barrier that I have only broken on long highway trips.
