Default Power Problems

I'm new to the CTD world, and loving it. Just started driving my dad's truck due to pulling a large trailer soon. His truck has been doing this for several years, but because he does not drive it allot has just been dealing with it.

2001, 24 valve

Problem #1
When cold, it has very little power. I can let it warm up for a few minutes and it then runs just fine, for the most part, see problem #2. The engine will slowly come up to 2000 RPMs and then shift like it should. Once the temp gauge gets above 140, it's like flipping a switch, the trucks take off like it should. Fills like a temp sending unit that is sticking or something. I live in Houston, so no sub zero temps.

Problem #2
When driving down the road at full power, you can feel the truck just loose power. Back off the pedal for several seconds and get back in to it and it's back to full power. My first thought would be some kind of governor, or throttle position sensor.

Thanks

Stick or auto?

Slipping convertor?

Low fluids?

Does the truck rev up and loose power, or do the RPM's stay the same?

Default RE: Power Problems

Auto, no revving no slipping converter, must not power.

The transmission has been serviced and not change.

When it does it going down the road, I can ease into the pedal and the truck will not really accelerate. Get into the throttle enough and it will down shift and take off.

Coolant temp sensor, ??? Engine warms up, thermostat opens, and senor gets hit with hot coolant and off she goes, maybe.
