Removing A Cat Converter
I was asked by a freind of mine to help him find a solution to his issue.
He owns a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500. 6.7 Liters. His issue is he has two cat converters which is taking up too much of the horsepower. He wants to completely clean out one of the cats so it still sits there but is empty inside that way the smoke just goes through, issue with this is he sais there is a sensor that will throw the CEL on. So he would like to know how to go about doing this?

On a 6.7 they aren't cats....it is actually a DPF (diesel Particulate filter). There are a couple DPF-delete kits but they are sold for off-road use only and a few of them still toss engine codes. Because the computer reads information before and after the DPF there will be codes tossed if he just hacks it out.

Don't do it unless you have the edge juice with attitude. Once you eliminate the dpf the computer will recognized something wrong with the dpf. It will throw one of many codes two of the common ones
1451-diesel particulate filter system performance, p244a-diesel particulate filter differential pressure too low, and p2002-diesel particulate filter efficiency below threshold. More codes will appear depending on what you do. I can tell you how to do it homeade, but you will still need the edge w/attitude and the truck will still go into regen mode causing bad mpg's. The right way of doing it would be buy one from h&s or BADP trucks. They both come with a fooler box to trick the computer from going into regen mode. I did the h&s and gained a few mpg's. BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE EDGE or your truck will display catalyst full and your truck could go into limp mode.

To add to the mix....If you destroy the cat and and DPF then need to reinstall due to getting caught. You will pay a LOT for new parts. May be better if you need to remove them to use a kit like Firemedic said.
