Good luck not getting caught by the tax man... If your not running it on the road your fine, but running dyed diesel on the street constitutes tax fraud as the reason it is less expensive is the fact it does not have the road taxes added to it.. good luck and god speed. Hope you don't get pulled over and have your tank dipped.

I don't think thats fuel oil..

It sounds like kerosine. Don't use it in your truck..

That long a go you would be silly to use #2 fuel oil for heat. Becouse it was more expensive.

If you really think its fuel oil, take a sample and get it tested.

OK..HERE GOES..NO HEATING OIL IN YOUR CTD! BAD BAD BAD ADVICE TO USE IT!

1. IT IS NOT THE SAME AS DIESEL...IT HAS NO LUBRICATION FOR INJECTORS, OR FUEL PUMPS, IT HAS NO ADDITIVES FOR STABILZING THE FUEL.

2. ITS 30 YEARS OLD! ITS PROBABLY SEPERATED IN THE TANK. AND BACK THEN THERE WAS NO RED DIE ADDED.

3. YOU BURN UP YOUR FUEL PUMP, OR BURN UP AN INJECTOR AND TOAST A PISTON..THATS A BIG RISK TO TAKE...

4. TELL ME WOULD YOU TAKE ADVISE FROM SOMEONE ON HERE REGARDING OLD MEDICINE IN THE MEDICINE CABINET??? IF SO...LOAD HER UP WITH THE HEATING OIL AND GOOD LUCK..

5. MY SUGGESTION IS..CALL THE HEATING OIL COMPANY AND HAVE THEM COME AND DISPOSE OF IT FOR YOU...

FYI, it all depends on what part of the country this person is in will depend on if #2 diesel was used for heating oil or some other type of fuel. BTW, back in the late 1980's in the PDX area of Oregon they delivered #2 diesel every time we had our tank filled.

You ask how do I know for sure? I saw the guy adding something to the tank and asked the guy what he was putting in our tank and he explained that diesel fuel would not flow to the heater if not treated as #2 diesel does not like real cold temps. But what he did not know was I knew what and why he was adding it, I just wanted to see what he would tell me.

BTW will you Please turn off your CAPS LOCK!

this is HIGH in sulfur Probably 1000ppm or more diesel today is 15ppm so lubrication may not be the issue.

seperate from what? water?

filter it first. dose it smell like varnish? (old)

that engine willrun good onhigh sulfur

Default Update: I had my 30yr old #2 heating oil analyzed

Sent a sample off to Stavely Services, Fluids Analysis in Kansas City, KS. The results were surprisingly positive. I submitted the sample as "new diesel fuel source" and their recommendation was: "Test Results are acceptable for product integrity & cleanliness."

Here are some of the results:

API Gravity was 38.9 API
90% distillation temp was 567 deg. F.
Cetane was 49.1
Sediment & water was <0.05%
Sulphur was 0.156

I'm a happy camper, though I will mix it with fresh fuel, maybe 25% old, 75% fresh.

I agree that blending gradually is the best procedure to use. I did the same thing back in the early 80's. The old heating fuel worked well and it was not dyed, but was light amber colored.
