Clutch report. Who uses / likes what?
I recently bought a 2005 Ram 2500 CTD with 6 speed (still need to verify if NV5600 or G56) that has 48,000 miles on it. At the moment the truck is stockwith an S&B intake, andmuffler delete. I plan on getting a programmer later, most likely the Smarty Jr since it seems to get very good reviews on this board. Other planson the drawing boardinclude a4" lift and 35's, brake upgrade, etc. Most of my time driving will be commuting empty, but I will be dragging around a 30' goosneck/camper with a 4000 pound rock crawler, fuel, generator, tools, and gear to trails in the mountains of AZ, NM, and UT.
Though I'm not having any clutch problems now, I wanted to throw it out there and see who likes what clutches, and what works best for mild power increases and 8,000-10,000 pound towing duties. I figure the stock one should be more then sufficient, but.......

RE: Clutch report. Who uses / likes what?
i got a 05 cummins its easy to tell which tranny u have left and down is g56 right and up is nv5600 i got g56 the smarty smakes it slip bad, and it took like only about 75 miles with the smarty my truck has only 49000, just my two sense but if you want to get a programmer get a clutch first. and as far as opinions on clutches there is none get a southbend clutch there isnt to many things people will agree but i would have to say all would agree to that. for a good double disc its going to run little over 2000 dollars with the hydraulics. so if you dont have the funds iand are going to be towing i wouldnt recommend getting any programmer the clutch/tranny/ and power ratings of the cummins are combined for a reason. once just my two sense

Thanks for the info! I do have the G56 and have found that the South Bend clutches seem to be about the best out there. I'm going to stay stock for now and see where it goes. If I start slipping the clutch while towing, I'll go that route. Not sure about upgrading all the hydraulics and stuff though since I'm not going to be sled pulling or winging that bad boy up to 1000+ lb ft or dragging over 10,000lbs with it.
Now, since Ijumped the gun andbought a 5 gallon pail of Amsoil Syncromesh based off of the 2005Amsoil application guide, and the 2005.5G56 takes ATF-4, is anybody in AZ interested in a good deal on a brand new bucket of manual trans fluid for their NV5600?? It's still in the UPS box...
