Default Ran out of fuel?

I made a 407 mile trip today on one tank pulling trailer and had 6 miles to go when the low fuel light came on. I thought no worry, I've gone up to about 20 miles with no problem. Get to station and turn key off and while waiting for turbo timer to shut down, the engine died! Oh sh*t!! Well I went ahead and fueled up and tried to start it and it took about 3 seconds longer to crank but it started right up!

when the light goes on you have about 1/8th tank left... I've burried my needle so far it took a search party to find it, long after the low fuel light came on...

btw, did 700 miles exactly on that tank... the one & only time I've broken 700... (have a vented tank = 37 gallons)

Interesting, there was still about 1/2 a needle width off the red when it quit. I put 32 gal. in. I haven't done the vent kit yet.

You got lucky. I heard it can be a real PITA to fire it back up after running out of fuel.

i ran my truck out of fuel when i put in the airdog system and it was a real pain getting everything to bleed out all the air. your gauge must be off if you ran out and still weren't even on red.

It is on mine. I have to crack open the front 4 injectors until fuel runs out. Tighten 'em back up and crank for about 10 seconds. Only know this because I had to replace my lift pump- luckily it didn't take out the VP44.
