Default more air flow

hey fellow dodge enthusiest. 2007 mega 4x4 3500 cd with about 17k. was wondering if any has cut out notches in their air filter box to supply more air. someone told me about it and it did it and also removed the front plastic cover between the grill and the filter and it looks like it helped quit abit. just wondering if any problems besides the filter getting dirtier quicker.

thanx

well, if you're using the stock filter.... you're not getting filtration with a hole in the air box. Air would be coming in after the filter which is BAD ! the last thing you want is a diesel without air filtration. It will ruin your turbo and motor in no time and it won't be covered under warranty.

It's IMPERATIVE to have clean air to your motor. It would be well worth the cost to install a quality aftermarket CAI. While you're at it... and good open exhaust too. Both will help MPG. If you have a 6.7 you'll need some special stuff to do it.

shouldnt have a problem as long as any new holes in the airbox are on the inlet side of the filter so you dont have un-filtered air like triton mentioned. last winter I found that having the piece next to the radiator actually helped mileage so you might want to leave it in place.

I'll add to what Triton suggested, and add one more... if you desire more air flow toss in a aftermarket intercooler, they flow more air. The intercooler will also drop EGTs up to 200deg good if your pulling a load, you'll also gain a few more HP and gain some fuel mileage!

simple mod to perform, I did it on my 6.7 remove the air box lid and filter. then remove the 10mm bolt that holds the bottom half of the air box to the radiator support. then give the box a good yank straight up. and out she comes!! I drilled 1 inch holes all over the sides and bottom.( 15- 20 holes i think) then cleaned it and reinstalled. I also run a K&N drop in filter. I dont know if it helps, but I can hear the turbo even better now!!!
