Differential oil level?
Last week I changed my differential oil front and rear. I used mobil 1 synthetic and filled them to the bottom of the fill hole.
YesterdayI talked to a friend who is a TDR member and he quotes me from a TDR article that for my rig I should fill to 1/4" below the bottom of the fill hole. Says that filling to the bottom of the hole is overfill and will cause foaming. Foaming apparently is not good as air in the oil reduces lubrication.
I have never heard of this. What do you all say? Anybody know if this is a fact?

Thanks guys. I got it.
After not being able to find the capacity of the differentials in the owners manual,I didn't even bother to go back and check on the fluid level issue. I see now that it's in there. My bad! sorry for the dumb question.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago, both front and rear. The new gasket should be reusable if there not damaged. Slightly less then 3 Quarts. This won't fill it up above the bottom of the drain plug. You don't want fluids that foam. It reduces the lubrication due to Air cavitation, heat goes up. The Rear cover has a slightly indented mark for the fill level for my year truck. Just keep the fluid clean and you won't have a problem.
