Question A/C Question

I have a quick question about the A/C clutch on an 07 Ram 3500 M/C. If my truck has been sitting a while and I start it and put the A/C on right away, I get a really loud "clunk" from under the hood. I assume it is the A/C clutch engaging but is it normal for it to engage that hard? If I turn on the A/C after I have been driving a while, the only noise I can hear is the damper moving. Any help/clarification would be much appreciated. Thanks.

That loud clunk is perfectly normal. Mine does it as well as just about everyone elses.

Yep, mine does it too. Especially after not running it all winter and spring. I should probably run it a few time over the winter and spring though. First time I turned it on this year there was a loud clunk and ran fine. Second time I was running down the interstate and turned it on... Really loud clunk and bang. Looked in my mirrors to make sure a belt and parts weren't bouncing down the road behind me. But, after running it for a few weeks now, it is pretty quite when I turn it on. So, I am thinking it would be a good plan to turn it on randomly through out the year?

Default A/C Clunk

First time I heard it, about a year ago, it scared me. Checked around, asked the dealer, all is normal, although it doesn't sound that way. You willl find that the noise isn't always the same intensity.

Smile A/C Question

Thank you to all that responded. It put my mind at ease to know it's a "normal" noise.
