Talking Asking for opinions

Hello all, I'm new here. I run in this forum several times the last weeks while doing research on our project. I'm part of a race team down here at the Baja, in La Paz, Mexico.

We been running a Class 8 truck, last year Baja 1000 second place, won some smaller races like Costera 250, second in Dos Mares. Now we re-organize team as well we want to build a new truck. ( We been running a F-150 tweaked to the max. more or less.... ).

The team principal is also owner of a larger development company and is promoting "green building" etc. - and also builds houses that way.

We figured it would be somewhat controversial to do that and at the same time do more or less the opposite when racing. That and seeing the performance of the VW in last years Baja 500 and at other offroad series as Dakar we want to go this way. Build a Class 8 with a Cummings in it. We went in touch with KORE that races also diesel yet they do 4x4 3/4 tons and we like to stay with the rest as much as possible as Class8 common - 4x2.

So any feedback or suggestions somebody come up with - we are glad to look into. It seem not so much out there in that field. the biggest problem we see at the moment. If configure similar as the KORE RAM's on the engine side (500hp), and we do not want to use a5-speed standard as they do - who builds performance auto trannies for RAM's?? Any pointer would be helpful.

Otherwise nice forum, for sure will stop by here more often, lot's to read....

I don't think I understand your question completely. Are you going to build a class 8 truck (tractor trailer type) or a ram pickup truck (3/4 or 1 ton)? If you are building a pickup truck, then race ready auto transmissions can be bought from several different companies, Suncoast Transmissions in Florida comes to mind. Good luck and let us know how it goes, and post some pictures of you project please.

Ok, Nick - sorry - my english writing is not always that good.. I'm from Europe, actually from the hometown of Mr. Rudolf Diesel...

Anyway, we are building a SCORE Class 8 race-truck but want to go the diesel route. Now the only ones doing that so far we know is KORE with their 3/4ton/4x4/5 speed standard race truck.
SCORE just added/permited Class 8 diesel so not much out there to find on performance parts. Are you aware of any performance auto-tranny builders on the Westcoast?? We contacted a few shops in Orange County and San Diego that build race automatics but as soon as you say the 4 words - cummings diesel, racing, offroad they pass..... :-)
You guys can always stop by at our new team website and see how it's going.... :-). The link is in the signature.

Greetings from La Paz

schniedelwutz, you might want to try NADP up here in Edmonton, Alberta Canada or BD diesel performance in Langley, BC Canada

NADP.ca
BD diesel performance.com

NADP makes towing, heavy hauler and race trannies they even have their own tranny dyno!

goerend.com may have something for you as well.

Welcome to the site. My cousin races in baja. Not sure what class, he races Rangers. no sponsors just PRW PonchosRaceWorks on the side of his truck. I have been to quite a few of the races and was his pit crew at times. Goerend, suncoast, ats. are some transmissions I am thinking of. and the CUMMINS getting 500 hp is nothing. simple programmer can do that. I have seen the kore truck and it is intense. You will need deep pockets to out do it. Good luck and Might see you down there one time.

Default Will give it the best shot

Hi JimmyD,

we are in touch with Jason at KORE and see what we get together. We are just very hesitant on the 4x4 issue and on the standard tranny.

Will see what we come up with. The team principal has the "deep pockets" to out do it - he real is on fire and wants to make that work.

I think is seen PRW truck - yet you know how it is when concentrate and look for your guys or get ready to swap driver aint much time to look around.

We run that mainly red F-150 in Class 8 with Quadlock / Newtek Construction logos. There are some vids on the new team website (in build up) Baja Quest Racing and the other part in here... with that truck. Check that one jump... (not the first but almost at the end of video) that was closed call - inclusive residue in racesuit.....

We will not go this year to the Baja since it's only Baja Northe and plan on first race with the new truck at the Dos Mares 2009 and then ultimately the 1000 that comes next year again down to La Paz. it's our main goal and we owe it to the son of the team pricipal we lost last year on way home from Baja 1000 / Cabo to La Paz in a freak accident not realted to racing at all.

Hit us up if you see us - I'll sure will remember you nick-name......

SpLaT: also thanks for the pointers - got in touch with the Canada people today.

Greetings from La Paz
