Default Laptop question

Ok, so I am relatively new to the diesel performance world, beg my pardon if this is a dumb question.

Are there any programs that you can load onto a laptop, to monitor the engine and trans. Maybe even software that you can reflash the computer for certain options like high idle, day time running lights, tire size, ect?

Thanks for your time reading and answering.

I'm not aware of any that use a lap top but the Edge Juice with attitude and the bully dog pmt does all of those things. the Smarty from mads is also really popular but does not do the monitoring of the motor.

I am really interested in this as well. I know there are applications out there that can monitor the ODB and DOB II ports.

One of my future projects is actually to create something like this. Once I get another 'computer' for my 99, I will begin reverse engineering. I'm more of a computer nerd than a gear head and this is the kind of thing i enjoy =)

Well keep me updated then. I'm more then interested in helping; I'm not a huge computer nerd, but I am fairly good with them. lol I once had a Linux machine. So yea keep me updated cause I would love to get a program to monitor my engine and maybe even reflash certain settings.

What programmer or tuner other then Smarty will let you change tire size, set warm idles (3 cylinder, high idle, ect). I dont really want more power untill I upgrade the tranny more so I doesn't have to be power programmer.

MSD makes a gauge set that plugs in the obd port that monitors all the engine functions but it wont change the speedo for tire size. I think it's called the dash hawk.

That I can answer typically no; most programs that work on a PDA are a different type of program. The only way that you could do that is if you manully inputed information into the PDA then exported it to your laptop in a common document type. ie. Word document
Thats why i reccomended the bank's programmer. It runs off of a PDA and has real time graphs on the proformance of the truck.
