Default Oil Shortage - WTF

So I take my 08 6.7 to the dealer for an oil change and was informed they would not be able to change the oil as they are waiting on 5,000 gallons which are on back order with no expected date for delivery. I called all local dealers and parts stores and get the same song and dance??? How is this possible???

My dealer is telling me that the Rotella T does not meet the requirements for the new 6.7?

What is everyone using in the new 6.7 and have you had any trouble recently acquiring it?

You need to use a CJ-4 rated oil in the 6.7. The 15W-40 Rotella T is CI-4+, so you cannot use it in the 6.7L Cummins. Shell does make a synthetic Rotella that is CJ-4 rated.

I use Amsoil DEO 5W-40 synthetic in my 6.7L Cummins.

The rotella 15 w40 meets cj-4 on all the bottles I checked at wallmart. It meets everything needed in the manual for the 6.7. Dont know what that dealer is talking about.

I work at the dealer and i have a slight idea of why there is a shortage. it is only hearsay but what i was told is that Mobil is having some sort of problem switching over a plant to update it. Mopar's oil is supplied by mobil. The first shortage we noticed was mobil 1 5w30. Then 5w20 mopar oil was next, now showing 15564 5 quart jugs on backorder. The 15w40 is showing in the neighborhood of 5000 gallons on backorder. I still have enough in stock to do 2 oil changes just because i normally keep so much in stock. I have started to see some of the 5w30 mobil 1 come in again so maybe they are back up and running and just taking a while to fill the backorders. The date is showing jan 31 for the next shipment but it is only showing 540 gallons in that shipment.

is kinda hard to read unless you enlarge it majorly. It says that mopar is moving to Shell products.
