A friend has an '01 3500 cab/chassis truck with 63x,xxx miles on it. The transmission is starting to whine a bit. He is wondering what years will interchange with his. IT HAS A 4500 (5 spd) transmission in it now. I looked it up at work and i came up with up to 2003 but i am not sure how far back. I see they used that transmission back in the early 90s. Anyone got any experience with this?

Also, i have heard of swaping up to the 5600 transmission (6 spd) into these trucks. Anyone here done this swap that could tell us what it requires ie: different clutch, brackets, ect.
