Default Diesel reliabilty

Have not been on the site for a while... I need a new truck. The DS is offering me a 2008 2500 Diesel. I no nothing of diesel's. How reliable are they? The hemi's had everything I needed, but 08's are all gone and no good price on 09's. Maintenance seems to be double the price. Not sure what to do

Keep up on the maintenance (oil & filters (oil & fuel) and normal maintenance and it will last you at least twice as long as a gasser. My 2001 has 201,000 on it. Bought it used and after having it a while I learned the previous owner(s) did not take good care of it so I am having to put a little extra money into it- I bought it with 187,000 on the clock almost 2 years ago. Other than it having an automatic tranny I love it (I didn't know how lame the Dodge autos are until I had to rebuild mine).

Edit: Break it in right and you'll get at least the same mileage as your Hemi but with more grunt.

The diesel will outlast the entire truck...youll have more power than a Hemi, and youll very likely get better mileage to, especially if you tow or haul anything.

Since its a 6.7, delete the DPF and block off the EGR. Stock they get less mileage and have a tendency to get carbon build up in the VGT...

The autos really arent that bad, especially the new 68rfe

Diesels are longer lasting that any gas engine if they are maintained.....

I'll seconnd the longevity of the diesels. We've had three, a '90 Dodge 250, a '92 Ford (bad trouble, no previous maintenance) and currently have an '03 Dodge with auto & 125,000 miles.

I'll never go back to a gasser. Even have the wife talked into replacing her VW rabbit with another VW Diesel.

Sure, the maintenance items cost a little more and the engine option from factory costs more, but you'll get 5 times the life and overall better mileage than a gasser.

With the economy falling, the 08 diesel seems very expensive since leasing is not an option anymore. Since it's a company truck, i find that the 900$ Cda a month for the next 6 years is very high. I am looking for a used one, found an 05 diesel with 52000 miles, but someone's on it... I'll keep on looking
