Default bluish grey haze on start up

This just started happening this winter on some of the cold start up days. It now seems to happen all the time even though it is getting warmer. The truck does start but smokes quite a bit with a bluish grey haze and really stinks of unburnt diesel. the trucks runs rough until driven and warms up a little and then runs fine and no more smoke.

I had a quick trip to the mechanic and he tested the preheaters for the fuel and they are working fine.

This truck has always gotten not great mileage to begin with, maybe an average in the summer of 15 MPG city/freeway unloaded 5.9L 6 speed, 3500 quad 4x4 longbx.

Any thoughts woud be appreciated.

Did you buy this truck new or used? How many miles are on it? What is your oil consumption rate? I know with mine...06 2500...it isn't supposed to burn more than 1 qt/1k miles. I have had my engine replaced due to my rings being fried. I noticed a few of the symptoms that you mentioned. Don't be overly worried at this point. Just what I ran into. Bought used and it had a severe lack of maint. She runs like a top now.
