Are you sure it has an in tank pump?
From the factory they had engine block mounted pumps.
Either way disconnect the outlet pipe from the fuel filter.
Cycle the key to on and you should get a 2 second squirt.
Bump the starter and you should get a 25 second blast of fuel.

well, that's what the dealership said. the lift pump by the fuel filter is working fine. but when the truck gets to about 1/4 tank it dies. and i don't get fuel to the filter until i fill the tank back up. now it could be the fuel gauge, but i would like to know that the pump in the tank is working. If you still have the stock pump on the block I doubt you have an in tank pump.
Whats the capacity of your fuel tank? when you fill er up are you completely empty or is a fill up less than actual capacity.

In the tank is a "fuel module" but all that is just a level sensor and a fuel strainer/pick up.
no pump.
What sometimes happens is one of the fuel lines between the top of the fuel module (inside the tank) cracks and a soon as the fuel level inside the tank drops below the crack it sucks in air and your truck stalls out.

10-4, i quess if there is a crack in that pickup module in the tank i might as well replace it. and i quess when i do that i'll know for sure if there's a pump in there huh. the last few times i have put fuel in it was from the tank in the back of my truck, so i'm not for sure how many gallons i'm putting in. thanks for the help. i'll let you know what i find in there. If you are going to drop the tank you might want to install the updated in tank lift pump kit while you are in there.

Good luck

yea is was thinking about that. would it hurt to have both (in tank and lift pump on the block) the second dealership said that there was NOT a pump in the tank unless a conversion had been done, so i quess the first place was confused or something. how much fab work is involved in puttin the pump in the tank. Its a direct fit.
The kit from Dodge comes with every thing you need.
There is a relay and wiring harness required to wire in but its all in the kit.
You can't buy the block mounted pump from Dodge anymore.
The kit comes with an aluminum block to bolt in place of the original pump.
The original pump gets tossed out.
